It takes 1,200kg of Earth's resources to create one 2kg laptop, and 80% of a computer's lifetime energy use occurs during manufacture. Reuse isn't just a 'nice-to-do', it's an environmental imperative.

End-of-use, not end-of-life

How do we reuse?

Resale

Devices are repaired and refurbished, and sold at reasonable prices, covering our costs and ensuring that high-quality tech is affordable to all.

Digital inclusion

We donate laptops and profits to our chosen charity,
Tech-Takeback Foundation, to support people who are digitally excluded in the UK.

Community support

Items that are still working, but cannot be sold or used for digital inclusion, are given away for free via Brighton's free shop, to benefit our local community.

Recycling as a last resort

Items that cannot be reused are disassembled to component parts. We reuse parts where appropriate, and send the rest for resource recovery and recycling.

Prioritising reuse

Factory resets don't work

A security firm recovered 40,000 photos, 1,000 Google searches, hundreds of emails and even a loan application from 20 factory-reset mobile phones purchased online. (Avast)

Certified erasure matters

Global Erasure and Certus both hold EAL 3+ certification from NATO, UK NCSC and ADISA.

Their software wipes even hidden or locked data, such as Device Configuration Overlay (DCO), Host Protected Area (HPA) and remapped sectors of the drive.

Our erasure process

For businesses, data security is essential. Under GDPR, you have a legal responsibility for the safe management of your data; but more important than the risk of hefty fines is the risk to your customers and your reputation.

TTB CircularIT's expert data erasure team ensure that no data is recoverable on your devices before they can be assessed for reuse.

We use secure licensed erasure software to overwrite every single piece of data on a device/hard drive, even the original operating system.

Drives that fail the data erasure process, or that can't be erased, are destroyed so that the data is unrecoverable, and a certificate of destruction is issued.

We can provide three-pass overwriting for organisations that still require it for legacy policy or contractual reasons. This service is provided at an additional charge.
